We will meet you near the ship between 8:00 and 8:30
and after having introduced ourselves we will start our
journey together towards Pisa and in around 20 min by car
we will be standing in front one of the world?s most recognized
symbols The Leaning Tower of Pisa. This famous campanile
or bell tower, by Bonanno Pisano has been standing for over
eight centuries. It was originally constructed in 1173 but
due to its poorly laid foundation the tower slowly started
to lean to one side and has remained that way ever since.
The tower draws tourists from all over the world for its
rarity and uniqueness.
Lucca
From Pisa, we will head towards Lucca, one of the most beautiful
and authentic Tuscan towns. It is considered one of the
most peaceful places in the Tuscan region surrounded by
16th century antique walls harbouring some of Italy?s most
exquisite medieval and Renaissance architecture. The historical
city centre?s main roads were transformed into tree-lined
avenues in the 19th century. However, Lucca has remained
a town of local merchants that know how to make the visitor
feel welcome.
What you will see:
The Duomo, The Church of St. Michael, in both Romaico
Pisano style and the Church of San Frediano. In the
Duomo, you will find the famous works of Jacopo Della Quercia
such as the tomb of Ilaria Del Carretto, which even though
sculpted in marble, depicts delicately this woman who died
giving birth to her second child, truly a sculptural masterpiece.
Market Square is another example of characteristic
architecture of this little town which was constructed in
the middle of an ancient Roman amphitheatre.
We will stop for lunch within the heart of this charming
medieval town. You will be able to taste local dishes and
wines. Lucca is famous for Lunch alla Lucchese once we have
finished and have some free time we will take a photo break
and then arrivederci Lucca!
